Abstract
he management of modern traditional markets is a crucial aspect of local government efforts to improve public services, empower traders, and optimize regional assets. However, in practice, the utilization of trading spaces in market buildings is often suboptimal, as indicated by a significant number of vacant stalls and kiosks. This study aims to analyze market management in the utilization of trading spaces in a Modern Traditional Market Building managed by the Market Management Unit of the Office of Cooperatives, SMEs, Industry, and Trade.
This study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with market managers and traders, direct observation, and documentation review. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing.
The findings indicate that market management has been implemented through the functions of planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling. However, the utilization of trading spaces has not been fully optimized due to limited facilities, weak supervision, and low trader interest in occupying the market building. The study recommends strengthening management functions, improving supporting facilities, and implementing trader development strategies to enhance effective utilization of market buildings.
